Speed Cameras Alert 3.0

The Speed Cameras Alert application provides users with real-time information regarding speed cameras located in their vicinity. It displays pertinent details about active speed zones and offers geofence alerts upon entry, enhancing situational awareness during travel.

Key features include:

• Real-time tracking of user location, with the map centering on the user's movement.
• Multiple zoom levels, including a bird's-eye view with an arrow indicator, and a toggle button that switches between a close-up view of the speed camera and a 1000-meter radius overview.
• Color-coded speed limit indicators on pins that display camera information:
  • Red – 25 MPH
  • Purple – 35 MPH
  • Green – 40 and 45 MPH
• A GPS accuracy test feature utilizing known locations such as the user's current position (indicated by a blue circle), which should align with satellite map data; this feature also provides an audio alert to confirm functionality.

Additionally, the app maintains notification functionality by sending foreground alerts, including notifications over navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze, utilizing Apple push notification services whether the app is active or running in the background.

It also integrates turn-by-turn navigation options for supported apps (Google Maps and Waze), facilitating seamless route guidance.

The system dynamically monitors approximately 200 speed camera locations within Washington D.C., with plans to expand coverage to include Maryland and Virginia in future updates. The current dataset can be reviewed at http://mpdc.dc.gov/page/speed-camera-locations.
